These days, few people would deny that there is deep continuity between human beings and the other animals. Yet, many people also think that human beings are also very different from the other animals. We are like the other animals, but also completely unlike the other animals.

What about human beings is “animal”? Why do you think those characteristics are “animal”? How should we think about our “animal” qualities? Should we suppress them or encourage them? Is there anything about human beings that is not “animal”? What makes this characteristic unique?
